Looking So Grown Up

There have been so many days when I have stopped and had to just take a second to realize just what a big boy my little Logan has turned it to.  There are times when I still feel like he's still a wee little guy who is so dependent on us, and other times when he is so darn independent.  I can't believe he's going to be three pretty soon!  It seems like time has been on fast forward.

(He put his glasses on his hat all by himself.  We are still trying to figure out where he got that from!)

He wanted to put his book bag on and then said, "Go to school."

So handsome!

What better place to take a rest than on the stairs.

Eye exams should be illegal for kids!

As Logan is transitioning from Babies Can't Wait to the school system for speech, we had the pleasure of having to go get a thorough eye exam after he did not pass the vision screening.
I called and scheduled the eye exam and amazingly we were able to get in the very next week.  As we were hanging up the receptionist informed me that we should plan for 2 hours and that Logan's eyes would get dilated.

YIKES!!!

My Dad was able to meet me at the appointment, and thank goodness he was there.  It was long and not very fun.  The tech. tried to do a few tests, but Logan wasn't too sure.  She then had me hold him so that she could put the drop in his eyes to dilate them.  He cried for a few seconds, but was so okay, when he found out he could back to the movie room to watch Tangled.

We waited so long, he decided to take a little nap on the floor!

We waited, and waited, and waited....finally, Logan was called back to see the doctor.  The tech got us all ready and we waited again for the doctor to come in.  Loan decided the best place to wait would be under the chairs, that way the doctor couldn't see him.  When the doctor finally came in, I had to drag Logan out from under the chairs.  You can imagine how willing he was to let this doctor look into his eyes.  After a few failed attempts, the doctor asked me to hold Logan in my lap and wrap my legs over his and basically bear hug him.  GULP!!!  I knew this wasn't going to be good.  Logan started screaming "Help me!  I'm stuck!"  They reassured me nothing they were going to do would hurt him, but then Logan's screams turned to desperate shrieks of horror!  As I was holding him, the nurse was pinning his head against my chest and the doctor, who now had that scary light hat on his head was prying Logan's eyes open, shinning light in them, and holding up twenty different lenses all while my helpless and confused baby was pleading for me to save him.  Logan has cried really hard before, but I have never heard him be so scared in my life.  This mama held it together enough to keep him still, but I might have had more tears coming down my face than Logan.

FINALLY, they were finished, and Logan and I composed ourselves to hear what the doctor said.  Again, thank goodness my dad was there.  He helped me get it together and understand what the doctor was saying.

Basically, Logan's eyes look good for now.  Because there is a family history of crossed eyes on my side, they want to continue to check Logan once a year.  The doctor said they way Logan's eyes focus, could lead to crossed eyes that would be corrected with glasses.  So, I guess I just signed myself and Logan up for this torture once a year, but I am happy to report that all is well for now!

Logan got to go to a special lunch afterwards with Granddaddy in his big truck!  I think that made it all better!

Cagle's Family Fun!

On Sunday, we loaded up the car and headed all the way across the street to Cagle's Family Farm!  We decided to go for the corn maze, but we were shocked to realize they had so much more.  There was pumpkin patch, goat petting area, jumping pillows, tricycles, swings, pony rides, a corn box, and of course yummy food!

 Mommy and Logan

Picking out a pumpkin!

Logan really liked the corn box (much better than a sand box)

We had such a good time, we are planning on going back a few more times to play!

"Go to Zoo?"

Logan and I headed out to the zoo a few weekends ago.  We got in the car at 8:00 and we were the second people in line when we finally arrived.  Just like at the aquarium, we had the place to ourselves for about an hour!  Logan is absolutely in love with zoo and all of the animals.

Looking at the otters

We were about 2 feet from the giraffes!  They were huge!

Willie B!

We toured the whole zoo, had a snack and started to go around for lap 2, but it was getting pretty packed.  So, we packed it up, and headed back to the car.  As soon as Logan realized we were in the parking lot, he started crying and saying, "Oh no, zoo....Oh no, animals".

Now every time we get in the car and get on 575 (the interstate by us), he asks, "Go to zoo?"  I sadly, have to tell him "No, not today, buddy."

I think a family zoo pass is in store for Christmas or his birthday.

Hot Stepper

This picture makes my laugh out loud...like spit on my screen laugh out loud.  I'm not sure whether it's the shoes, the no pants, him looking like he's strutting down a runway or the oh so concentrated look on his face.

Enjoy the laugh at the expense of my silly boy and your welcome!  :)

It's that time again

My boys kicking off football season (which stinks for us so far) and firing up the grill!  Touchdown for big boy pants and pee peeing in the potty 6 times last Sunday!

Because Being a Big Kid is Just So Much Fun!

"Go Ma!"

I hear those words all the time lately.  I try not to let them hurt my feelings, since I know my little guy is just trying to figure out this whole independence thing.  He has figured out that not only eating cereal from a bowl with milk is something big kids do, but that they also pour their own cereal without their mom's help.  Where the heck did he figure that out?  Needless to say, I think Lilly and I are still cleaning up Cheerios off the floor.

ABC's and 123's

This is a little overdue, but I am so happy to report that my big boy is LOVING school.  He is now going three mornings a week and for the first time in his preschool history, he made it an entire week without crying when getting out of the car!  He has always cried when getting taken out of the car, but stopped once in the building.  I think he's finally adjusting!

We love Logan's new teachers and are so pleased with what he's doing at school.  He comes home with the cutest crafts each day and is usually covered in glitter or paint!

It's such a blessing to have found such a wonderful place for Logan to be!

Gender.. What's That?

We've still be practicing with who boys are and who girls are.  We aren't getting into what makes someone a boy or a girl...just naming people and telling whether they are boy or girl.  Most of the time, Logan says he's a boy and Mommy is a girl.  He still is a little confused about "boy toys" and "girl toys".
I don't have a problem with Logan playing with pink things or girl things, but I wouldn't necessarily buy girl toys for him.
We went to Target a few weeks ago and I made the mistake of letting Logan walk around instead of going in the cart.  Our 30 minute Target trip turned into a 2 hour trip becuase he found this little jewel and HAD to tote it around the WHOLE store.

You can see he was having a little internal struggle between the pink shopping cart and the very manly monster truck!

Fun at Dinner

Logan loves to point out other people's glasses and is a little obsessed with Mr. Potato Head's glasses, so while waiting for our dinner the other night, we made Logan a pair a his very own glasses!

Good To the Last Drop

Mommy loves homemade ice cream, and I think it's obvious that Logan loves it, too.  (Maybe a little more than me!)

By the way, my Uncle Bud makes THE BEST chocolate ice cream ever and......that was Logan's second bowl.

Dirty Mouth?

Do you ever do something and as your doing it or right after, you think, "That was dumb!" or "I shouldn't have done that".  Well, I had one of those moments the other night, you know where you say, that was a real dumb a** thing to do.

Like father, like daughter I guess.  My dad and I found this picture at his house the other night.  He explained to me that this picture was taken about 30 years ago, when he was on the way to meet my mom at the doctor's office for an ultrasound of me.  He, too, had one of those moments.  I love this picture!  It illustrates perfectly how I feel sometimes. (See where he's pointing?)

So, here's what happened....

You know Logan loves to take random things to bed like toilet seats, placemats, and toys.  When he wanted to take his toothbrush to bed, I didn't think anything of it, but then he pitched a FIT to take his toothpaste to bed.  I was tired and thought, "Eh, he's taken his baby toothpaste to bed before.  He'll just hold it and go to sleep."  We recently, switched from the training baby toothpaste to the kids/toddler paste.  So, armed with the brush and the paste he silently settled into bed and as I covered him up, I was thinking, this is probably not a good idea.

Fast forward about 5 hours and I awoke to screaming and crying coming from Logan's room.  I waited about 30 seconds and realized he was crying louder and since he never wakes up in the night anymore, I knew something must be wrong.
I rushed to his room and as I opened his bedroom door, I was almost knocked over by the strong stench of fruit burst toothpaste.  I turned his little night light lamp on and saw exactly what I feared.  He was COVERED head to toe including hair, ears, diaper, shirt and pants in toothpaste.  Not only was he covered, but his pillow, blanket, bed, stuffed animals and toys were covered, too!

I scooped him up, as I was kicking myself for allowing him to take the paste to bed,  and took him into the bathroom to strip him and wipe him down.  I finally got him cleaned up and calmed down and then it dawned on me....He also ate the toothpaste.  I could smell it on his breath.  I ran into the room with him shriving in my arms and grabbed the almost empty tube.  I flip it over and with 1am still asleep eyes read, "WARNING: If you child ingests more than enough toothpaste to brush his teeth, call Poison Control immediately".  DUMB A**!!!!  So, now I am totally freaking out and thinking I'm about to have to throw him in the car and go to the hospital to have his stomach pumped.

I finally am able to find the number to Poison Control, which is now on speed dial.  The woman I spoke to was so sweet as I frantically explained what a horrible parent I am what happened.  She explained that the toothpaste has fluoride, which is why the warning is on the bottle.  She said that he would be fine, and if I offered him milk or yogurt now it would help absorb the fluoride.  She also told me that he would probably have upset stomach, and to call back in he threw up in the next 6 hours.

Needless to say, Logan slept with us the rest of the night. Actually, he slept while I scolded myself the rest of the night for being so dumb!

Bathroom Re-do!

When we first moved in the house 6 years ago, everything was newly painted in a fresh white color that we actually liked at the time. Once we found out Logan was a boy, we quickly got started painting his room in bright blue and green colors and had plans to paint more of the house, but like so many other things it got pushed to the side.
Logan's bathroom probably had it worst of all.  It was the boring white color, with even more boring towels, rugs and shower curtain.

Yuck...what was I thinking?

So a few weeks ago, I found this adorable shower curtain and I got G.G. to sew an extra panel on the bottom and ric rac between.  Then, I decided, because it is such a tiny bathroom, to hang it as close to the ceiling as possible, in hopes to elongate the room.

I wasn't sure what color to do on the wall since there are so many colors in the curtain.  We opted for a light grey color.  I lucked out and had almost a full can of white paint in the garage that Home Depot colored for FREE so my paint cost me nothing!

We added two white floating shelves above the toilet for some extra storage.  I have not found the decor I like for these yet, but just added a few things for the picture.  I would like to add a large dark wooden frame to sit on the top shelf and a few folded up hand towels on the bottom.

I have also added a very cute polka dot soap dispenser and ABC toothbrush holder.

I am thrilled with how it has turned out so far and I'll have to post the finished product once the shelves are finished and I find a rug that I like.

Do you think it looks better? :)  It's not so BLAH anymore!

Everything's Better with Cousins!

I can't believe summer is almost over!  I have about 2 1/2 more days and I'm getting more upset by the minute.  Not only is waking up at 5:15 getting me down, but the thought of being away from my little man all day makes my heart hurt.  I have been such a bad blogger, so this post is going to be pretty big.  We've had a ton of fun this summer with all of our cousins doing all kinds of fun things, so I thought I'd share some of my favorite pictures.

We went to visit cousins Jack and Anna in Alabama and had a blast.  The kids had so much fun playing together and getting to spend time with my cousin in never a bad thing.

Look at all of that curly hair!  Can you tell they are related?

Mackenzie came over and they had so much fun playing we clearly wore her out!

She is O.U.T.

Then we went to Mimi's house for some fun with Daniel and Shiloh.  We took the kids for a walk to see ad feed the horses.  Logan thought it would be a good idea to wear a helmet, although it is backwards and too small.

It's been an exciting summer and it makes it even better when you can share it with cousins!
