I can't help but post these pictures. Logan wanted nothing to do with his diaper the other night and we had a left over strand of lights out, SO.....
(Oh and Yes, I know he will kill me for these pictures one day, but I can picture it now. He brings his first serious girlfriend over and Mommy gets to whip out these pictures...hahaha! I can't wait!!!)
I have the hardest time getting him to sit still, but we turned the lights on, got the camera out and he literally just starting posing...
like a model!
Then he got a little silly...
Then he checked out the tree before Mommy ended the fun with a diaper and bed time!
I guess Logan was missing his brown shoes since we got the new shoes last week. He saw them sitting in the shoe bucket and grabbed them on the way to bed last night. He hung on to them while brushing his teeth, reading his books, and had the death grip on them when it was time to get in the bed. Of course, I had to sneak in and get a picture.
Chris said when he went in to get Logan this morning, he had both shoes under one arm and his book in the other hand. He is so funny!
After some deliberation, I put a call into Logan's doctor this afternoon to discuss his speech. We spoke at his 18 month appointment and she said that if he didn't have 50-100 words by Thanksgiving to give her a call and we'd go from there. When I spoke with her tonight, I explained that if I wrote a list of any word that Logan has ever said I think I could get to 20, but if I wrote a list of words he uses regularly, it might be half of that...maybe.
We discussed that he definitely understands everything we say, follows commands, and communicates with us in other ways (grunting, pointing, crying, taking our hands, etc.) She said that if he wasn't showing signs of communicating with us or understanding us, she would be very concerned. She also was straight forward with me and said that technically if he didn't have at least 50 words by his second birthday then he would be considered not meeting that developmental milestone.
I know I can over worry...remember the tip toe worry I had? So, I asked his doctor to be honest with me and if I was jumping the gun on this then to just tell me and I would be okay to wait this out. She explained that he may just be a late talker, but she knows me and knows that I would be happier if we went ahead with the speech evaluation, and she also said, "it can't hurt."
So, we are going to try to schedule it during my Winter Break from school. She said before a speech evaluation, they will require that his hearing is checked, so that is on my list to schedule tomorrow. We are going to try to go through the state and Babies Can't Wait program. Like I said in my other post about his tip toes. I'm sure everything is fine, but I would rather be overcautious than find out later that we could have been doing to help him now.
We do all of the normal talking to him, reading books, flash cards with animals, naming things when we see them, but I just wonder if there is something I can do to help him use the words that he knows and how to best continue to acquire and use new words.
Wish us luck!
My mom gave Logan this cute hat and a matching outfit. He somehow got distracted and left the hat on long enough for me to snap this picture.
We are so blessed to welcome Baby Shiloh Sevin to the family. She was born on November 18, 2011. She is beautiful and so sweet!
Yes, that was me holding her just minutes after she was born! We just happened to be back in Hope's room waiting when she came back.
Seeing her and holding her tiny little body makes me miss that teeny little baby stage...Yep, I've got a little bit of baby fever....BUT, no babies here, not for a while at least....that is unless we win the lottery. Anybody want to buy me a ticket? :)
Logan pretty much has everyone wrapped around his little finger, especially his Pop that he is so fortunate to spend so much time with. Mimi was home one morning last week and sent me this picture.
Homemade pancakes, a freshly made fruit smoothie in his cup, and playing on Mimi's laptop while relaxing on the couch. Wrapped around his grandparents' fingers? I'd say...YES!
We were just a Stride Rite, not even 6 weeks ago, buying Logan a new pair of shoes. I noticed a few days ago that his "new" shoes were getting tight and his toes were all the way at the end.
Luckily Stride Rite was having 1/2 off all sneakers today, so I headed in to see if Logan's foot really had grown and if we needed to get new shoes. Not only did his foot grow, but it went up a WHOLE size in just 6 weeks!!! Obviously, he has been going through a growth spurt.
We got a great deal. The shoes were regularly $40, but we got 1/2 off plus I had a $5 coupon, so we walked out with a $15 pair of new shoes. I had a little chat with Logan that he must slow down his growth. He's getting too big too fast. Plus, Mommy and Daddy are going to have to get second jobs if we have to buy new shoes every 6 weeks!
So here they are....His new size 8 wide shoes!! Cute, aren't they?
Long gone are the days of partying, drinking and staying up late to keep us entertained. Now all we have to do is see what Logan takes to bed, super stealth sneak into his room, snap a photo of him without him waking up and giggling like little kids once we are in the clear.
Chris and I love the age Logan is at. (You know I've said that every month since Logan was born). It really does just keep getting better and better. He has such a personality right now, and is constantly making us laugh.
We put new batteries in the light up snowman ornament, so it never left his hands, and he found a new use for the baby links...bracelets! (Yes, Daddy was really proud of his little accessorizing man! AGAIN!) :)
I had just stripped Logan down after his morning bath of oatmeal, and was trying to make coffee and clean up the kitchen. Logan got very quiet so I looked around the corner and noticed he had something in his hand, but his back was turned toward me. I ran in, hands dripping wet, and found the little artist beginning a masterpiece. Once I took the Sharpie from him, I had to snap a picture. It was pretty funny! I am very lucky he didn't decide to give our carpet a new look, or attack the rest of his body. I'm pretty sure I stopped this just in time!
Logan is such a big helper around the house. He loves to vacuum when I vacuum. He helps me pull the clothes from the washer to the dryer and the dryer to the floor. He also loves to pull things out of cabinets and rearrange them or find a new spot for them. He has always been a fan of the dishwasher, but very recently he has decided to take this putting away the dishes job very seriously. Check out what a helper he as become. If only he was a little taller to see which spot to put the silverware in.
I'm glad my son is such a fan of kitchens and helping with household chores. His wife will thank me one day! :)
So, we have had a few more silly items make it into the bed in the last few nights. Sunday night, after the big Saints win, he decided he had to take his football to bed! Guess he was really pumped like his daddy.
Last night, he had been toting around Chris's empty bottle of aftershave and there was no way he was going to willingly give it up. After a little hesitation, I decided to just let him take it, and I planned on sneaking in to get it after he feel asleep. He went right down and I went in around 11:00 to get grab the bottle, snap a picture and sneak out without him waking up. When I opened the door and looked at him, I saw the cap was off and his room had an ode' de man smell. I got the bottle out and went back to bed.
When he woke up this morning, I got him out of the crib and as I was kissing him, I felt like I had a grown man in my arms. Even though there was no aftershave left in the bottle, I think the smell just engulfed him. Chris had to give him a good scrub down before school this morning. We can't have grown men going to preschool!
You may remember my post about how my son is probably the only child who refuses a lovey or security blanket. Well, I think we have reached a new level of strange things to bring to bed. It's like he grabs the last thing he can think of as we are on the way to rock and read. He's grabbed books, balls, trucks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shoes, and even overalls, but last night takes the cake.
We bought a seat to go on the potty in his bathroom so that when he takes a bath we can sit him on it and practice going potty. Thankfully, he hasn't actually done that yet because he decided to pull off the cushy part of the potty seat and take that bad boy to bed with him. I let him hold it while we rocked and read our stories and then literally tried to pry it out of his hands when placing him in the crib. He very clearly told me "NO", and then proceeded to throw a miniture fit. Since it didn't have any potty germs on it yet, I figured why not, at least it will make for a funny picture!
So, around 10:30 last night, I did the stealth creep into his room and blindly shot the camera over the crib rail, praying he wouldn't wake up. Here's what I caught. You better believe I high-tailed it out of his room faster than you can say "Pee on the Pot-ty"
This still makes me giggle!!
Tonight he tried to take his Halloween balloons to bed, but Mommy won that battle and he ended up taking a dump truck! :)
Our neighborhood decided to have Halloween Saturday night instead of tonight. When I first heard a few weeks ago, I was a little bummed, but now that it's all over I am really glad it worked out this way. We were able to trick or treat Saturday, eat a bunch of candy, stay up late, and not worry about waking up early the next day for work and school. Sunday we had a restful day and enjoy the Saint's game (even though they lost to an win-less team.) Tonight, Halloween night, we stopped by the local festival at the park and then stopped by Granddaddy's house for a very quick (30 minute visit. Nana, I'm so sorry we didn't come by. We had to go help Mimi and Pop. I'll come see you this week....I promise!)
Logan was an adorable cow and got so many compliments while we were parading around the neighborhood. He had a ball running down the street and got pretty good about going up to the neighbors' doors. He took the candy from many people and put it right into his bag. When the neighbors just held out the bowls, Logan thought he was supposed to take the whole bowl. We got a good chuckle!
Look at that tummy!
My favorite!
My other favorite!
We took him to about 15 houses and I think he had a really good time!
I don't know when he was cuter, the turtle or the cow?
Thursday night, Gymboree was hosting a private Halloween party, so we decided to take our little fireman up there. Logan was running around outside in his fireman boots the other day, and our sweet neighbor, offered us her son's old fireman raincoat and hat. I gladly accepted and I'm so glad we did. He loved it and sure did make a handsome fireman hunk!
We had a great time at Gymboree playing, going on a pumpkin hunt, having snacks, painting pumpkins and bags, and just being silly. Then we headed next door to Kroger because they were also having a Halloween event. It was packed, so we didn't stay long. We did however, have to check out the firetruck outside of Publix. Logan was a little unsure of it once we got up close.
on a pumpkin hunt!
"Catch!"
Daddy getting Logan's tummy
painting bags and pumpkins
Who know Kroger would be so fun on a Thursday night?
I'm a little late, but man are things busy right now. School is stressing me out, classes and homework are getting to be too much, a clean house now consist of sporadic vacuums, clean toilets, and corralling toys into baskets as quick as my little helper can pull them out again. BUT, amongst all this craziness, we still take time to stop and be a family and be thankful for the many blessings around us.
Logan has had an eventful month and he is doing so many new things. I'm not sure about his latest stats, but I'm sure he's close to 30 pounds. I swear the boy just. keeps. growing! I put a pair of his jeans on him the other day, and Chris wanted to know why I had put Logan in capris. We are right on the edge of of 24 months and 2T clothes. He is still sporting size 4 diapers, and has a new trick with his diaper. When he only has a diaper on, which is not very often thanks to this little trick, he likes to pull his :ahem: friend out through the top and just let "him" peek out! This was, (okay, still is), hilarious until I thought about him trying to do this with pants on at school or out in public. I can imagine the call now: "Jessica, umm, Logan has been exposing himself today to the other children." Oh My! I would be mortified!
Logan has also become an expert at opening doors. Not only can he open them, but he can stealth out of them without anyone knowing. Yes, we are speaking from an actual encounter. Luckily it was at Mimi and Pops and they live way out so he was just taking a walk back behind the house to his favorite tree. Yes, we have knobs on all of the doors. No, we haven't resorted to duck taping his hands, but that's next on the list if he continues to escape!
Daddy has been really proud of his boy lately! While Daddy is trying to teach Logan how to play football, scream touchdown, and do all the manly things they are supposed to do, Logan has had other plans. Lately, he would rather play with Mommy's bracelets and necklaces. Who doesn't love something shiny that clanks, especially when you can put it on your wrist and bang it together. Can you blame him? At least while he does it, he usually wears his very manly fireman boots. Logan comes in from being somewhere and immediately goes to the boots, ripes off his tennis shoes and tries with all of his might to get the boots on. Usually we have to come to the rescue to help him. I think the problem is the boots are getting a little too tight. Looks like new rain boots will have to go on Logan's Santa Wish List.
How cute is this?
We always joke when our dog Lilly is being annoying that she is "Logan's dog." Well he must have heard this so much, he decided to take the responsibility upon himself. He loves to go to her basket, take out her leash and have us put it on her. Then, he pulls her along in the house, or she yanks him exactly where she wants to go. He loves walking her, but I'm too afraid to let them try this act outside. I have a feeling it would go like this. Logan meet concrete. Lilly meet freedom.
I am trying to get Logan jumping on video. It might just be the cutest thing to date. He helps me count while squatting down and popping up. He doesn't actually make it off the ground, but he does do this little rock on his tip toes that he thinks is jumping. I love it! I'm on a mission to get this on video this weekend.
Logan's current word count, I think is 11 words. I am still a little worried about this, but I am going to wait a little longer before my typical unnecessary worrying. (Yes, I know I worry too much sometimes)
His very clear words as of now are: toe, tree, two, apple, Mama, Dada, no, ni-ni, go, nose, eyes.
I could go on for hours about how perfect he is, but those things I mentioned above (vacuum, toilets, and homework) are calling me to come and pay them attention. Here are a few more pictures:
We live directly across from one of the most popular Corn Mazes in our town. People come from all over to get lost in the huge corn maze. Cagle's Dairy, not only has an amazing corn maze, but they also have a farm tour, hay rides, petting zoo, and of course, again, yummy fair food.
I took Logan over the summer with a few friends to do the hayride and farm tour, but the corn maze wasn't available, so we were so excited to FINALLY have the chance to go on Saturday. We've talked about walking over to do the corn maze for years. It only took us 5 years.....
Logan kind of didn't want to sit still to get his face painted, but after a struggle and me holding his head still, the doggie paw print looked pretty cute.
and then, he rubbed it...
so, it looked like a big dirty patch on his face...
We headed over to try out luck in the corn maze...Logan was riding in style, while we were making circles trying to find our way out.
Logan found some corn, and tried to eat it...YUCK!
Next, we tried the jumping pillow...still not very sure
Then, a tricycle, but his legs were a little too short
Logan showed us which pumpkin he liked best
He spent a little more time just looking cute
Checked out the chicks on the farm! (and the chickens, too)
Telling everyone who will listen all about his fun day on the farm!
